Fourth of July With the Navigator (#78)

The next film on our list was Flight Of The Navigator. I had never seen this film before, but found out the premise from a friend, who told me that the story starts with a Fourth of July celebration. This became the theme of our dinner. I grilled up some burgers and we had a good old fashioned summer cookout. You know, despite the fact that it was still March. This actually worked pretty well because burgers are mentioned a few times in the film. In the beginning, the family talks about getting burgers and then later in the film, the main protagonist talks about Burger King.

For dessert, we had "galaxy popcorn" which was inspired by the recipe on this website. It was pretty easy to make but mine did not come out as pretty as theirs. The basic recipe is simple enough and is easy to customize.

Galaxy Popcorn

Ingredients:
1 bag of microwavable salted popcorn (unbuttered or lightly buttered)
10oz milk chocolate candy melt
2 cups mini marshmallows
Edible decorations (i.e. edible glitter, sprinkles, pearls, etc.)

Instructions:
  1. Microwave popcorn
  2. Melt chocolate
  3. Mix until all popcorn is evenly coated in chocolate.
  4. Give chocolate a little time to cool, then mix in marshmallows and edible decorations while chocolate is still sticky.

Overall, the theme worked well. As a side note, there is a scene where the main character watches an 80's music video for the first time. I had 80's music videos playing on my tv as guests arrived, which tied in well with that. If I was to do this again, I don't think I would change much, other than that I would probably have the event closer to the actual Fourth of July.
