Mad Max Movie Night (#51)

The next film on our list was Mad Max. Since this film is based in Australia, I decided to base the meal around a simple Australian dish. We had Vegemite sandwiches with chicken salt fries. Vegemite has a strong meaty flavor that is not typically enjoyed by westerners. To offset that, we added tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. This actually complimented the sandwiches quite well in my opinion. The chicken salt fires were just regular fries that I cooked with chicken salt, a topping that is commonly used in Australia. I had to order it online before the event. Let me tell you, chicken salt is delicious. I still have quite a bit left from that order and have continued to sprinkle it on my fries since this event. Oddly enough, both Vegemite and chicken salt are vegan despite the fact that they both taste like meat.

Before dinner, I set up my Playstation for guests to play the Borderlands 2 DLC: Torgue's Campaign Of Carnage. This video game was inspired a lot by Mad Max and so I thought it would help tie the post-apocalyptic feel to the night. Because of the pregaming, I opened my home to guests earlier than normal so that they could have an hour of gaming before dinner.

For dessert, we had ice cream on sugar cones. This snack is featured in the film.

Overall, I would say that this was a successful night. The food and theme all worked well together.
