Teenage Mutant Ninja Pizza (#110)
Our January film this year was the 1990 classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. For this film, the dinner theme was obvious. You can't have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles without pizza.
Now, how do you want to do that pizza is up to you. Domino's is featured in this film. But so is frozen pizza. In one scene, they are ordering a pizza on the phone. If you wanted to make an authentic TMNT pizza, you could try to copy that order. I decided not to, because it sounded expensive and not actually that good.
Ultimately, I decided to let my guests make their own pizzas. To do this, I decided to use naan bread as the pizza crust, premade the sauce, and provided guests with all of the cheese and toppings they would need to make a good pizza.
Doing it this way, with precooked elements, allowed the guests to quickly make and cook their pizzas because they wouldn't need to wait for the crust to cook. Instead, the oven was preheated to 400° as the pizzas only needed to be toasted for about 8 minutes for the cheese to adequately melt.
For dessert, I decided to lean into the radioactive ooze that gave them their powers. I made a green fondue that tased good with fruit but also glowed under a blacklight. Here is the recipe for that.
TMNT Radioactive Ooze Fondue
For this dessert, I wanted to make something green that would taste good and glow under a blacklight. I had planned all of these different ways to get the glow effect using either tonic water or vitamin B2, but as it turned out, this dessert actually glowed on it's own without additional additives. I did use a little food coloring, but if you want a good glow, I would go sparingly on that. The more I added, the less glow I had.
1 box pistachio pudding (3.4 oz)
- In a bowl, combine pudding mix with milk.
- In a saucepan on low heat or a double boilers, melt chocolate and butter.
- Once melted, combine pudding mix, melted chocolate, and heavy cream in a fondue pot or crockpot on warm setting. Make sure everything is stirred well.
- Add vanilla and any food coloring you want to enhance the color. Keep in mind that if you want it to glow under blacklight, the original light green color works best.
